Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to all my IRB Navigator data?
The one-time setup fee includes a data conversion from IRB Navigator to IRB+. During the data conversion, no data will be lost but you will need to setup the values in your drop down lists. The data conversion process usually takes a day or two. We can do it over a weekend to minimize disruption during business hours. You will need to give us your IRB Navigator files by either electronically transmitting it to us via FTP (we can walk you through this process) or you can create a CD and mail it to us.

What if I want to convert data from a database other than IRB Navigator?
We can convert the database to IRB+. However, since each database tracks different fields, we will need to inspect your non-IRB Navigator database to determine field mappings, any necessary data transformations, etc. The cost of a data conversion service is usually $1,000 to $3,000.

Is my data safe?
Yes. The servers are hosted at our secure data center in Massachusetts. The servers are backed up nightly to an offsite location. The servers have multiple connections to the Internet so if one connection goes down, we are still online. The data center is on a diesel generator so power failures do not effect us. Data that is transmitted from your desktop to our server over the Internet is encrypted using SSL, the same encryption used for protecting credit card information over the Web. You are also protected by a confidentiality agreement as part of the terms-of-use.

If for some reason I no longer want to use IRB+, can I get my data back?
Yes. We hope you never want to stop using IRB+ but you can always ask for your data back. We can provide your data as a Microsoft SQL Server database backup, a Microsoft Access database, or in Microsoft Excel. Depending on the format of the data, the cost of extracting the data is usually $200 to $600. We recommend that you use your replacement database a month or two before asking us to delete your data off our servers just in case you need to request your data again.
